Niu Niu, a personified icon of the Free Lunch Organization, grew out of all the good hearts and wills from the Free Lunch Program. With more and more caring and love from the supporters of the Program, she grows up robustly. She, along with Free Lunch Program, has not only brought food and cloth, but also added laughers to more and more children.

Niu Niu receives massive messages every day from the supporters. They ask Niu Niu whether the children have enough food to eat and cloth to keep warm, the children become taller yet, and have the children put their effort into school.

To answer those question above, Niu Niu decided to visit the children. When she gets there, she would like to bring all the best wishes to the children from all the supporters. When she comes back, she would like to share to the supporters with how everything goes with all the children.

On November 18, 2015, NiuNiu arrived at Dahualin Elementary School in Donghe Township, Huzhu County, Haidong City, Qinghai Province after a long trip. The school is located in Hualin Village, about 5 km away from Donghe Township and 12 km away from Huzhu County. Huzhu Autonomous County of Tu nationality is governed by Haidong City, Qinghai Province. Huzhu County lies in eastern Qinghai, northern Haidong City and borders Qilian Mountains on the north. The county has 8 towns, 11 townships including two ethnic townships. Huzhu County is the only autonomous county of Tu nationality in China and is the most densely populated area of Tu, accounting for 17% of the county's population . Donghe Township is in the north-eastern area of the county and is 15 km away from Weiyuan Town where the county's government locates.

Dahualin Elementary School has been benefited from National Nutrition Improvement Plan; It has 5 classes from the first to the fifth grade. There are 125 students, 10 staff members including two cooks. In total, 135 people have lunch at school, 10 of whom have been funded by FLFC. The school has offered lunch to students, faculty and staff since May, 2014 under the FLFC program and the National Nutrition Improvement Plan.

Now, let's go and take a look at Dahualin Elementary School with NiuNiu!

The gateway of the elementary school wass not magnificent, but through it we could see the school buildings were upright, windows were bright and clear under the sky.

At the end of November, Qinghai began to snow. This was a road near school and the snow in the woods did not melt completely yet. Kids need more nutrition in winter.

The construction of campus was going well. The table tennis tables were neat and decent.

image007.jpg

The kitchen was in full operation. The chef was careful and skilled. From the red, green peppers, we could imagine the good taste of lunch.

image009.jpg

Before noon, the cook was preparing pork and cauliflower. The steel kitchenware looked tidy.

image011.jpg

This was the kitchen. The freezer and fridge were cheap yet in high-quality. Their greyish-silver color let the kitchen seem cleaner and more professional.

image013.jpg

Fresh vegetables selected by people in charge were in the storage. The goods were in good color, shape and taste.

image015.jpg

The rules concerned with children's health were hung on the wall, and they should be kept in heart.

image017.jpg

This was the dining hall; orange seats bathing in sunlight brought energy to the place.

image019.jpg

It was reassuring that all the dishes were sterilized and easy to grab for children.

He might be a leader in class from the good way he carried the tray. His sense of responsibility came from himself and his teachers.

When children in the line saw our camera, they smiled warmly.

image025.jpg

It's time for lunch! The white rice was in a clean rectangle tray, and children could not wait for lunch any longer.

image027.jpg

Main dish of the day was fried meat and cauliflower with chili, which had appetizing taste, smell and colors.

image029.jpg

Children surrounded teachers. It was so delightful to see that  rosy cheek and large bowl of rice in their hands.

image031.jpg

The dining hall was clean and tidy. Children enjoyed their meals with order and good manners.

image033.jpg

This girl with double eyelids and big eyes was engaged in eating. The bowl was too big for her two hands to hold completely.

image035.jpg

The boy with bowl cut did not forget to smile for our camera when he was eating.

The bowls and chopsticks were piled up after lunch to be cleaned and used again.
